The Form Table

It all started with the obstinacy of making a cantilevered table the initial form was derived from the construction crane ,but we didn’t want the table to be very boxy so we started disassembling the form and playing with it .
The first version we came up with was just perfect (on paper) but very soon we realized it won’t stand on its own and that’s where the ice broke .
After 0.1, 0.3, 0.3 versions we actually started making scaled models and right in front of our eyes we could see physics doing it’s thing. After consultation from an engineer we started building the final design.
We had an easy option of adding and additional support and ‘jugad’ our way out, but not breaking the slenderness of the table was a priority! The table should look as sleek as a line and visually bulk-free.
Choice of material was good old strength of MS (6mm sheet). The top is made from a furry, pleasing to touch suede fabric.
It was all about balancing, adding, reducing and shifting weight. The initial lines we drew were more or less how the final form of the table came out, a very delicate & minimal one.
